Modern and efficient.

Our vehicles leave their mark on your life. They are safe and reliable companions at work and in leisure time. Over a long period of time. When it comes to the environment, however, we want to leave as few traces as possible. That's why this engine is one of the cleanest on the market.

Highlights of the 4-cylinder diesel engine.

One of the cleanest engines of our time: the C 220 d produces virtually no nitrogen oxides as these are removed as far as possible from emissions. This is achieved through proven Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. It could hardly get any cleaner.

    Engines in detail:

    • Innovative technology: the common-rail diesel technology boasts an increased injection pressure of up to 2000 bar, optimised combustion chambers and extremely fast-switching, high-precision injectors. Quick start ceramic glow plugs improve the engine's cold-running characteristics.
    • Great power and refinement: High ignition pressure and two-stage charging delivers high torque in every engine speed range. Two balance shafts ensure smooth operation.
    • Easy on the environment: the ECO start/stop function ensures that the engine is temporarily switched off if the vehicle is stationary, thereby saving fuel. In addition, the ECO display in the instrument cluster provides information about how efficient the driver's driving style is, inspiring them to modify their behaviour and thereby reducing fuel consumption.

The declared fuel and energy consumption figures are determined by testing under standardised laboratory conditions to comply with ADR 81/02. Real world consumption is influenced by many additional factors such as fuel quality, individual driving style, load, traffic and vehicle condition. The declared consumption figure should only be used for the purpose of comparison amongst vehicles.
